Driver Awareness Scheme

The National Speed Awareness Course (NSAC)

NSAC is designed to cover low-end speeding offences detected by automatic camera devices and police officers.

The course gives drivers and riders essential advice to help them change their on-road behaviour and reduce reoffending.

Motorists will develop their knowledge of speed limits, recognise the negative consequences of speeding, understand

the benefits of complying with speed limits and be motivated to drive or ride at a safe speed.

Courses can be based in the classroom or online and are around 2 hours and 45 minutes

The courses do not look to embarrass individuals, judge them, or hold them to account for the offence committed.

Nor will the trainer presenting the course ask anyone in the group to talk about their offence.

People who successfully complete the course (and any other conditions set by the police) will not be prosecuted for the original offence.

As explained in our FAQ’s there is no legal entitlement to a course, these are offered at the sole discretion of police, and the courts have no powers over courses.

Also if an offer for a course is made to you, the police can withdraw the offer at any time before the course has been successfully completed.
